Event Details

LA Artcore is proud to announce its second installment of Crosscurrent, an exhibition hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Makii Masaru Fine Arts and LA Artcore Center. This special exchange program culminates with a show of all participating artists’ artworks both in Tokyo, Japan and Los Angeles at LA Artcore and is enhanced with receptions and public talks with the artists. Additionally, the artists are given the opportunity to travel abroad where they are hosted by their Crosscurrent counterparts and are free to tour and sightsee during their stay. The artists in this exhibition come from diverse backgrounds whose careers span in scope from emerging to established, are of different generations, have varying degrees of education and represent a diverse cross-section of aesthetic approaches.

Artists participating from Japan: Takahiro Ishii, Naomi Shigeta, Sachiko Miki, Toshiharu Miki, Keisuke Miyashita, Yasunari Nakagomi, Taeko Ohtsuka, Keiko Sakaguchi, Tomoaki Shibata, Toko Tokunaga, and Gakushi Yamamoto.

Artists participating from the United States: Suguru Hiraide, Hei Myung Hyun, Beanie Kaman, Joel King, Yun Sun Lee, Kaoru Mansour, Geoff Mitchell, Dan Nadaner, Michael Freitas Wood, Jae Hwa Yoo, and Peter Zaleski.

LA Artcore’s exchange show programs such as "Crosscurrent" have served the artists by establishing national and international networks of artists and arts professionals which in turn become a resource for supporting the development of each artist’s careers.  The exhibition will take place concurrently at both LA Artcore venues. This exhibition was co-produced in conjunction with Contemporary Artist Center Japan.

Another opening reception will be held at LA Artcore Brewery Annex on Sunday, September 20, from 1 to 3 pm.
